Every now and then while watching an old movie or tv episode set in New York City, I see an image of the Twin Towers, the venerable World Trade Center
I miss those buildings.
In my mind, there were no more magnificent symbols of the greatness of achievement and capitalism than those bastions of success and prosperity.
How apropos would it have been to replace them with exactly the same design, a true “in your face” New Yorker reaction?
It is going to be a somber day for America as we recognize 25 years since the attacks of September 11th.
I was walking on Trinity Place a week or so after and saw the devastation aftermath personally.
It is a sight I will never forget.
Nor will I forget how united we Americans were in the wake of the tragedy. Patriotism was at its zenith, every car was flying the Stars and Stripes, every home had a flag in front. In Los Angeles, it was common to see a Mexican street vendor selling American flags, likely made in Malaysia to Middle Eastern people driving German cars.
We were all just Americans.
Where are we just 25 years later? Capitalism is under attack again, but this time it’s from within as socialist candidates are being elected with seemingly insane platforms and plans.
Even in New York City.
Ronald Reagan once warned that our freedoms are never more than a generation away from disappearing.
We replaced the World Trade Center with a Freedom Tower , yet we’re on the cusp of giving our freedom away.
